Do you perform better in practice than in competition?
Are your performances consistent?
Has your confidence taken a dip?
Are you trying to take your performance to the “next level?”
Don’t worry… You are not alone. These thoughts and questions are common.
Let’s start by asking a different question: “What am I going to do about it?”
Learn How this Athlete Brought His Game to a Next Level
When Johnny came to TMD he was almost in tears because he felt his hopes of a Division 1 scholarship were gone. He was on the verge of quitting a sport he loved for all the wrong reasons.
We began our work with a full mental skills assessment, which links the connections between thoughts, emotions, and performance.
What we found was that he was struggling to maintain focus, had swaying confidence, and worst of all, a huge fear of judgment and failure.
Through our conversations and activities, Johnny learned how he was creating negative scenarios in his mind that caused him to become tense and “scared to play.” As a result of his work with TMD, he began using pregame and practice routines that helped him develop a successful mindset.
Johnny learned to focus on the process rather than the outcome of his performance, which increased his overall success.
Although John (as he now prefers to be called) has come a long way in his development, he continues to work on his focus and ability to control his thoughts and emotions. John is now playing more consistently, with a greater drive, and sense of dominance in his game.
And there is more good news: several D1 college scouts are interested in John.
