What should I do in an emergency or crisis situation?
If you are in immediate danger of harming yourself or someone else, please call your local emergency services. They can be reached by calling 911,1-800-273-TALK (8255) for the National Crisis Hotline, or go to your nearest emergency room.
If you are unable to drive or do not have someone to take you to the emergency room, call 911 and request an ambulance immediately.
At the emergency room please provide my information to the emergency team. Ask them to call me at 312-282-1770.
Do you take insurance?
TMD accepts Blue Cross Blue Shield for behavioral health services.
If your insurance policy allows “out-of-network” benefits for behavioral health services, TMD will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance provider at the end of each month. This superbill provides the necessary information for reimbursement for “out-of-network” benefits. Many of our client’s take advantage of their “out-of-network” benefits in order to work with us.
How will I pay for my session?
TMD takes several forms of payment. Cash and check are the preferred forms of payment. We also accept all major credit cards.
You can arrange billing options with your therapist. For example, some clients prefer to pay for each session. Payment options for services can be discussed and agreed upon between you and your therapist. Please note that we have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
What if I have to cancel?
TMD has a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you cancel within 24 hours or less of your appointment time and are unable to reschedule in the same week, you will be billed at the full rate of the appointment. This fee is NOT covered by insurance or able to be submitted for “out-of-network” benefits.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Call or email TMD! If we are unable to take your call at that time, make sure you leave a message with your name and number. All calls and emails will be answered in a timely manner for your convenience.
Prior to scheduling an appointment, we will discuss your current struggles and your desired goals. Once we establish that we are a good fit to work together, we will set up a time that works for you.
What is your Approach to therapy?
This is always a great question! Just like your struggles and goals are unique to you…so is what we do at TMD. Through guided and thoughtful conversations, activities, and “homework” we collaborate with you to develop strategies that help you meet your needs and goals.
We use several different approaches that are based on your needs and may help you to accomplish your goals. These approaches include: Cognitive Based Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Our work with you is unique just like your needs and goals.

How can counseling help me?
Spencer Johnson, M.D. wrote a book, Peaks and Valleys: Making Good and Bad Times Work For You — At Work and in Life, that describes how a young man’s behavior and thoughts took him to low places or valleys in his life. He stayed in the valley until he met an individual who helped him understand how changing his thoughts, perceptions, and beliefs could get him out of the valley and to the peak.
You see…everyone has certain beliefs and thoughts that influence their daily behavior. Sometimes these thoughts can become misaligned with their personal and professional development and goals.
TMD can help you gain control of how you are thinking about problems and solutions. This may result in helping you move through life’s obstacles, getting you closer to your goals, and a more fulfilling life…Or climbing out of the valley and up to the peak.
What does your logo mean?
We are often asked about the meaning of our logo. The TMD logo is about the constant upward movement for growth and excellence in our daily lives. You see, in life we often have times of peaks and valleys. No matter where we are in this cycle we are constantly trying to improve the current version of ourselves.
The character running up the TMD letters represents each of us in the pursuit of our goals. The TMD letters the character is running on not only stand for the company’s name. But also reminds us of the importance of The Mental Difference when on this journey towards our goal.
